April - Head Carrying Water

A month ago I started working on a small quilt art 28 X 17 inches.

The center is a panel that I bought at Puyallup WA Sewing Expo a couple years ago.

The quilt represents an African couple head-carrying water to their village.

I picked an African swirling print fabric to create borders. I added triangles as a border to mimic the hut roof shape.

On the bottom right corner, I hand appliqued some water containers to create a sense of movement and showing that the couple has been carrying water for a while.

Some loops were added to hang the quilt on a rustic tree branch. The loops are attached with bone buttons.

Enjoy!

March - Weeping Willow tree in fall

I started a new tree quilt. It is a weeping willow with fall foliage. I want to try to do some thread painting to blend the different colors together.

February- Birch Trees

This is my second quilt art. The subject is Birch Tree.

The background represents trees. I paper piece it. I use many different fabrics in cream and gray colors. After it was finished I added bigger trees in the foreground using black and white fabrics.

January - Indonesian Dancer

I bought a small batik panel 3-4 years ago at Puyallup Fair. I decided to incorporate it in my first monthly quilt art.

The finished quilt art size will be bigger than 5 x 7.

The panel is the centered piece. I created wavy lines around the panel representing hair floating in the air as the dancer moves. 2 other dancers surround him, they are represented by pairs of eyes.

I added some music notes to represent the music on which the dancer is dancing.
